| Venue: | The Talbot Hotel |
Our group is making a slow journey through Dante’s Inferno, meeting on the third Wednesday of the month in the Talbot Snug, and covering two or three cantos of the poem. We focus on Dante’s encounters with the various damned sinners there, leading us to discuss the nature of their self-centred actions against community, and the way Dante’s depictions can shed light on the modern world around us (or within us). There is some attention to Dante’s language and to the historical and cultural background of the poem, but the chief focus is on our response to the poem before us. There is no specific translation required, but it is essential to have an edition with good notes.
